Resources for (Back) Pain

In todays modern society, there are a million different techniques, each within their own realms, in combatting back pain. From surgery to natural-pathic remedies; it makes it hard to understand what may truly be the best route for you.

Although I am in no position to diagnose anyone, I believe in a proactive regiment which demands that the body be healthy and self-sustainable. But things happen. Lord knows. What is most important is that you understand your body. You allow yourself to feel it. And that you actively seek to listen to it. Only you can truly tell what is working and what is not.

Do not pressure it to comply when it needs rest. Give it rest, but continue on a journey to re-build and prehaps enhance its capacity by giving it what it needs. To me, the most important things are diet and excercise. Without excercise, the body, like anything else, will only live to the limits of the environment in which it finds itself. This can be sitting at a desk 8 hrs a day. Your body will accustomize itself to its environment without realizing that this is not the ideal environment in which you seek to optimize its capacity, causing stress or injury when bringing it into different situations. Likewise, over training or pushing yourself too much or too often will cause your body to go into a state of constant self-preservation, meaning it may thrive in high stress environments but continue to bring this tension into the parts of your life that are meant to help bring peace. For example, this could be discomfort when trying to relax at home on the couch, cooking, or at the park with your family when your body should be permitted to 'feel' and to relax but cannot because it has been programed to always 'be on alert'.

Similarly, diet helps regulate what your body expects from you and what you expect in return. We wouldnt ask someone to do something without considering first what their needs or limits may be. Your body deserves the same acknowledgement.

If youre at a point in your life where reducing the stress in your environment is not an option or possible, try to combat this effect by eating consciously and providing your body with the nutrition and excercises it needs to meet your demands. "You are what you 'Edo' ". Although it is acknowledged that not all cases can be preventable or rehabilitable on their own, the important aspect is learning to communicate kindly and effectively with your own body and gaining the confidence from growing this internal relationship to be its friend and to pursue your own journey towards its happiness.



We each have our own journey and are responsible for listening to what our bodies need. The great thing is, everything you need starts with you.
